‘Notre Dame is a French School but is also very open to the mixed culture in and around this area and has a number of lessons in English as well. As an English mother, I teach the French children at Notre Dame, English for an hour a week which I hope is giving something back to the community we live in. The young French children who have been receiving these lessons for the last three years are incredible and although not fluent, have a huge understanding of the language.’ (MC, Dec 2010 )

  • Crêche Les Kokinous

    Recommended by Nancy Simons

Crêche Les Kokinous is a French Creche in Route de Boudy
    Route de Boudy 47290 CANCON Directrice Isabelle Petit 0553 01 02 17

    Comments:
“I cannot recommend this crêche highly enough. My daughter started there when she was about 2 yrs old and although it was tough for her (& me!) as she had not been surrounded by the French language, they were wonderful and she absolutely loves it there now and is starting to speak French (less than one year later). The facilities are great, the staff lovely and they do great activities with the children such as trips to the local market to buy goûter bits and bobs, or picking the cherry tomatoes from the crêche potager for lunch and taking the compost out. Then there are all the art and craft activities and cookery such as pancake making. It still amazes me how they manage to organise a big group of toddlers (from about 15 months they are included in goûter at 4pm sitting at little tables with their bibs and cups of milk and yogurts!) How do they get them all to sit still I don’t know; what I do know is that they treat the children with kindness and patience and just the right amount of discipline depending on the age. I think that Isabelle (the Directrice) is also head of the Monflanquin branch too.” (NS Jan 2011 )

  • Le Petit Pont Creche

    Recommended by Nancy Simons

Le Petit Pont is a drop-in crêche for babies and toddlers
44 rue des Cieutat 47300 Villeneuve sur Lot

    Comments
“I visited this drop in centre a couple of times with Isabella when I was pregnant with Chloe and all the staff were delightful. There was a really nice atmosphere and there was a Paediatrician on hand to answer any questions should you have any.” (Nancy Sauron Jan 2011 )

"In Villeneuve two groups use the same venue, Petit Pont on Tuesdays between 14.30 and 17.15 and Parentais on Monday 14.00 till 17.00. They are both basically drop in centres where they have loads of toys for all pre school children, changing facilities as well as coffee and biscuits for mum. Both of these are free and certainly worth knowing about if you are shopping in Villeneuve and want a baby friendly break.” (Vanessa Hopkins, Feb 2011)

"It has been set up, and is run, by Joel Bailey and Julie Pollitt. It is fabulous! A dynamic centre of learning which draws out the best from each student. Josh has been studying there for about 18 months and has passed his GCSE`s and is now studying A levels. He is now achieving to his full potential having previously felt he was just "getting by" in the French system. Jake has been there since the end of September and is studying for his iGCSE`s and French A level, having already passed French at iGCSE level. Together with their team of inspirational teachers, Joel and Julie offer a range of "exam" subjects as well as sport and literacy classes. For example, Alice has been to Wordy Wednesdays which allows youngsters educated in France to become/remain proficient in English. After all, it`s important to be able to write and spell in your native language, something which can easily become neglected when living in France/abroad" (PS, November 2011)
