Activities for kids

We are always looking for new recommendations. If you know of any great activities for kids please let us know.

  • Le Vaisseau, Strasbourg

    Recommended by Geraldine Pilard

Centro Yoga Om, Vilanova i la Geltru Image

The Vaisseau, a science-centre situated in Strasbourg, is aimed at children between 3 and 15 years old. The basic idea underlying the conception of the Vaisseau is that children tend to be more interested by subjects such as science when they are presented in a fun way. This principle is put into practice at the Vaisseau through the different techniques used to introduce scientific themes to children: A team of German and French-speaking activity leaders is ready to answer children’s questions at all times. More than 130 interactive elements are there to allow the visitors to experience the Vaisseau’s motto:  "it’s forbidden not to play".
1 bis rue Philippe Dollinger BP 61037 F-67027 STRASBOURG CEDEX 1

    Comments:
"Our family likes to go there once or twice a year. Though it is aimed at kids, it is also very interesting for adults. Learning about science is made possible thanks to experiences such as films you can watch or insects you can observe. Science is made concrete and almost easy." (GP, Nov 2010)

  • Car Museum, Mulhouse

    Recommended by Kirstin Barton

Centro Yoga Om, Vilanova i la Geltru Image

The Schlumpf Collection is certainly the most prestigious car collection in the world. This is demonstrated by the two Bugatti Royales, including the famous Coupé Napoléon, the 150 Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Maybach, Mercedes models, etc. It was in a former Mulhouse woollen mill, with its typically 19th century architecture, that Fritz Schlumpf established his fabulous collection of 437 cars belonging to 97 different brands. With this unique collection, the Cité de l’Automobile sees itself as being to cars what the Louvre is to art.

    Comments

"We have taken our children to the Car Museum in Mulhouse several times, with different visitors and children aged 3 upwards. It is well worth a visit and a great wet weather activity. The number of cars can feel overwhelming and there is a lot to walk around, but there is a little “train” which can take you on a tour too! Audio guides are available in different languages. The children get a little activity booklet with things to hunt out – this went down well with our children. Best tip – the Museum’s Pass will get you in at no cost – this is a big saving on the entrance cost (about 10 euros for an adult and 8 for a child)." (KB, May 2011)

"In the past 9 months of living here, we’ve already visited this zoo 5 times! It’s a favorite activity when we have out of town guests as it’s impressive and a great way to socialize while getting in a good, long walk. The primate exhibit continues to be a favorite of mine as well as the adorable free-roaming goats in the petting zoo". (KC, March 2012)

Enjoy an enchanting journey which mixes modern interest with historic heritage at Belfort Citadel. The staging of the Grand Souterrain with spectacular special effects tells the history of Belfort by bringing to life figures who lived within the Citadels walls. An audio-guided trail takes visitors to the defensive ditches, the ramparts, the top of the building and the panoramic terrace, the castle, the Tour des Bourgeois and the mysterious underground hall of the Grand Souterrain. More information can be found here: www.belfort-tourisme.com

    Comments:
"Children can get their own audio guide in quiz form to discover the outside of the Citadel and the Grand Souterrain. Its a lot of fun thanks to a quiz and their friend Max, a peregrine falcon." (MJ, Feb 2014)

  • Centre de Reintroduction des Cigognes, Hunawihr

    Recommended by Laura S

Centro Yoga Om, Vilanova i la Geltru Image

    Route des Vins, 68150 HUNAWIHR
    www.centredereintroduction.fr

    Comments:
"This has to be one of my favorite places to visit with the kids!  Le Centre de Reintroduction des Cigognes is a really well thought out educational experience for the whole family.  The park tells of how the storks in Alsace were almost extinct some 30 years ago and the initiatives put in place to help to repopulate.  It is mostly outdoors so make sure you go when the weather is nice.  It has lots of hands on activities with a huge tree house that you can climb up to get close to the actual stork nest perched up top.  Storks are free roaming at the park as well so you are guaranteed an up close siting. In addition, there are good (and reasonably priced) tarte flambees that you can eat there to really soak up the surroundings." (LS, Feb 2014)

    Comments:
"It’s a shame there aren’t more places like this is Strasbourg!  Doucuer et Gourmandises is a fantastic café serving great coffees and teas as well as homemade cakes. Best yet, the second floor has a great playspace for the kids so parents can enjoy their food/beverage while the kids play. The owner Myriam is incredibly welcoming and really makes you feel at home. There are plenty of activities that are planned for kids and adults alike that are constantly updated on their website and facebook page." (LS, Feb 2014)
