Family and baby groups are localized, and depend on motivated parents! There are relatively few mother and baby groups, or activities, except in the large towns, and the group and activities that do exist quite often cater for children with childminders rather than with parents. In the frontalier region most people with pre school children seem to go into Switzerland rather than staying local for baby activities.

The BCT is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that provides help, support, and information to expectant parents and families with young children living in the Basel area: from "bump" to "babe" and "beyond". Through their many programs like antenatal and first aid courses, informational events and booklets, playgroups and neighbourhood coffee mornings, monthly newsletters and social events, the BCT supports members in all aspects of parenting. The BCT has resources, playgroups, and social events for English speaking families mainly in Basel but also in the frontalier regions of France, Switzerland, and Germany.
"The BCT has been a very welcome part of our settling in France. With their social gatherings and newsletters, we’ve been able to connect with other families who are in similar situations as ours. With my family so far away, it’s been a relief to have such a caring organization help me with having my baby and curbing the isolation." (KC, March 2012)

The BCT Bumps and Babes is a group for expectant parents and parents with babies from 0 to 1 year. Whether youre pregnant or have a small baby, this group gives you a place to make connections, talk about the concerns and joys of parenting new babies, and get tips from others who are facing similar challenges. They meet on Tuesdays between 12:00 and 2:00pm at the Gundeli Familienzentrum. Since they meet over lunch time, youre welcome to bring your own lunch and something for your child if needed. Please note that the Familienzentrum in Gundeli is closed during school holidays. Contact the Bumps & Babes coordinator for details of alternative holiday time venues.
"My daughter Ellen was born here on April 18, 2013 and since she was 5 weeks old we have attended the Basel Childrens Trust group "Bumps and Babes". The group is for parents-to-be as well as parents with children aged 0-1 year, and is a place for sharing experiences, good advise and not least be reassured that your child at some point WILL sleep through the night ;o)!! Its very informal and the atmosphere is relaxed - there is no need to feel bad about coming there without make-up and/or not having had a bath for a couple of days because the little one has refused to sleep! I would definitely recommend attending the group whether you only feel up to it once a month or enjoy coming every week." (MDJ, April 2014)
